Lower Dolpo Trekking lies within the far western a part of Nepal within the Shey-Phoksundo parkland 400 km west of Kathmandu. Lower Dolpo & Shey Phoksundo Trekking was restricted for foreigners until 1990. This trek may be a Beautiful trek over many passes, jungle, ravines, and over the Himalayan main chain. Lower Dolpo Trekking is supposed for real adventures wishing for an off the beaten path experience. Lower Dolpo Trekking home for too many rare and endangered animal species including the Panthera uncia, Musk, deer, and blue sheep. During this Lower Dolpo Trekking there two passes Bagala, 5190m, and Numa-la 5318m with their long steep ascents and long steep descents. Lower Dolpo Trekking is the wonderful yak caravans and a few of the oldest and largest Buddhist monasteries within the area. This trek is that the flat upper valley, which contains a variety of interesting villages mostly, inhabited by people of Magar and Gurung origins. We begin our 18- days in Kathmandu with a visit to UNESCO world heritage site before heading to our journey “Lower Dolpo Trekking”.

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m) at Tribhuvan International Airport

Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, we offer you pick up facility from the airport and manage your stay at the most comfortable hotel in the city. You get to meet the team of trekkers and together we prepare for the trek.

Day 2: Sightseeing around Kathmandu valley (1,345m)

Today would be the most exhilarating day where you will be introduced to the most pious Hindu and Buddhist religious place that is listed in the UNESCO World Heritage sites and elucidates you to the entire mysticism over its existence Pashupatinath temple, Boudhanath stupa, Patan Durbar Square, and Swayambhunath stupa.

Day 3: Fly Kathmandu to Nepalgunj (158m)

Today we are flying early flight Kathmandu to Nepalgunj. Nepalgunj is the west part of Nepal. The hour-long flight is quite longer than other domestic flights. It is one of the best mixte unique traditional local culture. Stay Overnight at Nepalgunj hotel.

Day 4: Fly Nepalgunj to Jhupal (Dolpo) (2,320m) and trek to Dunai (2,850m)

Today we head to Jhupal by air before fly we have breakfast we fly from Nepalgunj airport. After exploring the Jhupal we have lunch then we carry our luggage and wake down trek towards Thule Bheri Riverbank we pass through the terraced field and beautiful village. We continue on the flat path, river till Dunai. Overnight stay at Dunai.

Day 5: Dunai to Tarakot (2,543m) 5-6 hrs walk

Next, the path passing Thuli Bheri river we head out of Dunai. The path step by step ascends upstream to cross the bridge to get to the north bank of the river. We further continue on the deep gorges and remote villages within the shades of pine trees; about seven meters above the river, till we reach Lawan, where we cross another bridge to get to the south bank of the stream again. As we continue, we’ll be greeted with beautiful terraced fields of Tarakot and therefore the village of Tarakot, standing on the mound situated south of the Bheri river. The village was built as a fort by the local people. The remaining day is spent exploring the village of Tarakot. The night is spent at an inn in Tarakot.

Day 6: Tarakot to Laini (3,160m) 6-7 hrs walk

Laini is the destination set for the day. Leaving Tarakot, we first cross the bridge over the river and gently climb through the fields of buckwheat. Taking an extended, roundabout route, south into the side valley, we head forward to cross another bridge across the Yalankot River. We then climb towards the south bank of the Thulo Bheri River. We head any, crossing cypress trees and a white chorten, towards a 120m long high-suspension bridge at Laisicap. As we cross the bridge, we can spot the village of Kanigaon high above the path and some white-breasted dippers (only found in western Nepal) down below the path, on the river. If time permits, we can also visit Chhedhul Gompa which is just a fifteen-minute climb from the main paths. We now continue through the cedar forest and the steepest part of the gorge to finally reach the destination, Laini. The night is spent in a basic tea house.

Day 7: Laini to Nawarpani (3,545m) 5 hrs walk

Nawarpani is the destination set for the day. After about 5 minutes of flat path walk, we make a sharp ascent to the mini pass. We then walk across the steep gorge and descend crossing the water made by the Tilba river. Next, we climb one more ridge and then descend to the Chyangru river, spotting some Eurasian dip Martin, flying high above us. We now cross the river to get to the east bank, continue following the river, cross a side stream – the Chaya Khola and continue to Thanjam; crossing the bridge across the Tarap Khola one more time. Following the riverside path, we now walk up to Nawarpani. Overnight at Nawarpani.

Day 8: Nawarpani to Do Tarap (4,090m) 7-8 hrs walk

Dho Tarap is the destination set for the day to continue on the riverside of the river, crossing the small cave, camping area, and the beautiful bridge of the Tarap River; enjoying the barren canyon walls. We then climb the east bank of the river and through a worn Trans-Himalayan landscape; we climb the ridge at Serkam that greets us with a chorten. We descend from Serkam and after walking for a couple of kilometers, we cross the bridge across the Saul River. We further walk towards another bridge at Langa to push ourselves to the east of the river. The walk continues on a rocky path below the cliff. Then, climbing gradually alongside the river past many walls and worn cliffs, we ascend to a line of ancient chortens. After a walk of 20 min, Dho Tarap arrives they welcome by Buddhist flags and monastery. The night is spent at a lodge in Dho Tarap.

Day 9: Rest Day Acclimatization Do Tarap (4,090m)

Dho Tarap is a village of many clusters of closely packed stone homes and corrals surrounded by the fields of barley. The village is populated by a number of Tibetans, and additional Magars, who are both Bon PO and Nyingma followers. They offer a good variety of attractions to spend a worthy day. Therefore, the day will be spent exploring the nearby monasteries like Doro and Shipchhong and the settlement of Dho Tarap. The night will be spent at a lodge in Dho Tarap.

Day 10: Do Tarap to Numa La Base Camp (4,440m) 6-7 hrs walk

Numa La Base Camp is the destination set for the day. Although the distance is relatively short, we make lots of detours to visit gompas and villages, before reaching the destination. From Dho Tarap we head back to ancient old Mekyem Gompa. We continue further on the path on the river, enjoying the plain valley with yaks and horses grazing the patches of thick green grasses, to cross the bridge across the river. This is often the most beautiful part of the entire region. Crossing the bridge, we walk towards another bridge that is also a path junction, from where we continue following the southern path heading towards the Numa La base camp. The walk continues until we reach the Numa La base camp. The night is spent in a tented camp beneath Numa La.

Day 11: Numa La Base Camp to Pelung Tang (4,465m) via Numa La pass (5,190m) 6-7 hrs walk

Today is going to be the toughest day of the whole trek. As we aim to cross Numa La, we start early in the morning. We first climb the ridge on a yak path up a grass-covered slope that greets us with a variety of Mani walls and a Chorten. We further climb up to the ridge to a grass-covered mound and a small stream; from where a long climb up scree will take us to Numa La. The top presents an incredible view of the surrounding mountains and the view of the barren mountains of Dolpa. We also climb the crest for the best views of the trek. After enjoying the view, we descend from the pass into a U-shaped, rocky valley. We cross the stream, talus slopes, and head towards the point, where the valley meets another valley. We then follow the river downstream past worn cliffs and gently climb up enjoying the view of the river disappearing into the gorge until we reach Pelung Tang. Overnight stay at the tented camp in Pelung Tang.

Day 12: Pelung Tang to Dajok Tang (4,080m) via Baga La pass (5,070m) 6 hrs walk (camp)

From Pelung Tang our destination is to reach Dajok Tang through the small meadow, crossing stream, and climbing up the ridge. After passing Two large streams we head towards the village called Dajok Tang (4080m).

Day 13: Dajok Tang to Ringmo (3,600m) 3-4 hrs walk

Ringmo is the destination set for the day. Initially, we go through the vegetations like pines, walnut, and willow oak; however, after walking about an hour, we need to continue through the narrow rocky cliffs for about 2-3 hours to reach Ringmo. The remaining day is spent exploring the village of Ringmo. The night is spent at a lodge in Ringmo.

Day 14: Hike Ringmo to Phoksundo Lake (3,733m)

We take a relaxing walk halfway around the lake to explore the lake area. We additionally visit the nearby temple as well as the Tibetan Buddhist monastery. If time permits, we spend the rest of the day exploring the Ringmo village. The night will be spent at a lodge in Ringmo.

Day 15: Ringmo to Shyanta (2520m) 5-6 hrs walk

Shyanta is the destination for the day. We walk along the Phoksundo river towards the bridge along Pugma Khola past Polam (a winter settlement), and Amchi Hospital. An easy walk on the east bank of the Phoksundo river, through the forest, will bring us to Chhepka before climbing to Shyanta. Overnight at Shyanta.

Day 16: Shyanta to Jhupal (2,475m)

From Shyanta, we descend to Sulighat passing Raktang where we cross the bridge across Thuli Bheri River. Exploring the villages, we will reach Jhupal which takes about 4 to 5 hours of walk.

Day 17: Jhupal to Nepalgunj by fly and Nepalgunj to Kathmandu (1,350m)

We have a flight that takes you from Jhupal to Nepalgunj. The next morning, we will take a flight from Nepalgunj to Kathmandu. Then head to the Hotel where you can relax, there will be a farewell dinner (Nepali Food) to celebrate the successful completion of our journey. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

Day 18: Final Departure

Your wonderful adventure in Nepal comes to an end today. We wish you all the best. A representative from Aarohi Holiday Pvt Ltd will take you to the airport approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight.

  • The meals are included in our package which is taken in lodges. We will get breakfast and dinner at the lodge where we stay overnights. Our guide will choose and stop for lunch on the available place for every day on a trek.   • We will have to walk around 6 to 8 hours per day/ 10 to 12 km per day more or less. We will have our breakfast at the tea house and begin our trekking as in the middle of long trekking we will have our lunch at the tea house and after some time we will start the trekking again. However, will end our night will dinner at tea house take rest to have some fun and remaining trek we will start it again tomorrow after breakfast.
