Route to Makalu Base Camp Trek

Your Makalu Base Camp adventure begins with your arrival in Kathmandu (1,345m), where our team will warmly welcome you at Tribhuvan International Airport and transfer you to your hotel. The following day, you’ll enjoy a guided sightseeing tour of the Kathmandu Valley, exploring UNESCO World Heritage Sites and preparing for your journey into the Himalayas.
The trek officially starts after a scenic flight to Tumlingtar and a drive to Num (1,560m). From there, the trail takes you through charming villages and lush rhododendron forests, gradually gaining altitude as you pass Seduwa and Tashigaon. The first major climb brings you to Khongma Danda (3,500m), followed by a rest day to acclimatize before crossing high passes into the remote Makalu-Barun region.
From Dobate, the trail descends into rhododendron and fir forests before reaching the alpine pastures of Yangri Kharka (3,557m). Trekking further, you’ll pass Langmale Kharka and finally ascend to Makalu Base Camp (4,870m), surrounded by spectacular views of Mt. Makalu, the world’s fifth-highest mountain, along with Everest, Lhotse, and Baruntse. A full day is spent exploring the base camp, soaking in its dramatic landscapes and glaciers.
The return journey retraces your steps, descending gradually through Yangri Kharka, Dobate, and Danda Kharka before ending your trek with a sense of fulfillment and adventure.
