Trip Information

Known as the “Royal Trek” because this route was traversed by Prince Charles of England and luminaries like Mick Jagger. It’s a small trek in the Annapurna region starting from Pokhara after driving to Bijaypur Khola, taking you on a four-day loop through the Himalayan foothills and ending up at Begnas Lake where we catch a boat and then drive back to Pokhara.

This is a very enjoyable short trek, especially for those who don’t have time for a longer trek or an expedition. The beauty of this trek is that it still offers spectacular views of Annapurna I, Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Annapurna IV, Machapuchare, Lamjung Himal, Dhaulagiri and other surrounding peaks.

There are no facilities, hotels or lodges, so groups and their staff must be fully self-sufficient. This trek is only possible as a camping trek.

It was built in the 5th century with four pairs of eyes of Lord Buddha in four cardinal directions keeping an eternal watch over the people and their doings. You will find Buddhist pilgrims from Tibet going round the stupa spinning the prayer wheels.

    Bhaktapur Durbar Square:
Visit the Bhaktapur Durbar Square, the Royal Residential Quarter of Bhupatindra Malla, famous five-storied temple of Nyatapola in Pagoda style Batsala temple, Bhairavnath temple, Duttatraya temple, Pujari Muth and Palace of 55 windows.

A beautiful valley set on the banks of the Phewa Lake, Pokhara is also known for its panoramic views of Annapurna and Machapuchare (shape of fish tail) in the north, Dhaulagiri in the west and Lamjung Himal and Manaslu in the east. It is smaller and much less hectic than Kathmandu, hence providing the perfect starting point for our trek.

The journey starts in the morning at 8:00 am with a 30-minute road drive that takes us to Bajayapur after which we trek uphill for about 3 to 4 hours through Brahman and Chettri villages. Skyline camp will be set up around the Kalikasthan area.

Continuing along the ridge to a school at Lipini village, we make a steep but short climb through the forest to the Gurung village of Shuanmklung.

  • Day 06 - Trek to Chisopani – 4 hours

The trail drops steeply down the south side of the hill to a large tree, several tea shops and a police check post. This is a trail junction. The Royal Trek route climbs Chisopani winding around back of the hill to the village. A short distance above Chisopani village is a high knoll where there is a small temple. This is the Chisopani Danda or the Chisapani ridge-top. The camp here has splendid mountain views.

  • Day 07 - Trek to Begnas and Drive to Pokhara

The trail descends along the field for an hour or so, and then descends steeply on the stone step into a small valley near Rupa Tal. We continue for a short distance through the rice field. Then we make a final ascent to the ridge that separates Begnas Tal and Rupa Tal. From the ridge, we descend into the Begnas Bajar and take a 30 minutes drive to Pokhara.

Overnight at a hotel. Breakfast and lunch included.

  • Day 08 - Guided Sightseeing in Pokhara

After breakfast, a full day sightseeing tour of Pokhara city begins. There will be a professional city guide and a private tourist vehicle at your disposal. You will visit the following sites:

    Bindhabasini Temple:
The temple lies in the center of the religious old bazaar. It is dedicated to Goddess Bhagwati, another manifestation of Shakti. The park grounds offer a fine picnic and relaxing area.

    Davis Fall:
Locally known as Patale Chhango and located in the southern flank of the Pokhara valley, it is where the stream flowing from Fewa Lake collapses and surges down the rock into a deep gorge, leaping through several potholes. This is hugely popular with tourists and locals alike.

    Gupteshwor Cave:
The revered Gupteshwor Cave is situated 2 km from the Pokhara airport. The entrance is right across from Davis fall and the cave is almost 3 km long. It has some big hall-sized rooms and some passages where you have to crawl on all four. This cave holds special value to Hindus since a phallic symbol of Lord Shiva is preserved here in the condition it was discovered.

    Seti River Gorges:
Carved by the Seti Gandaki River, it is one of the natural wonders of Pokhara. K.I. Singh bridge at Bagar, Mahendrapool and Prithivi Highway Bridge near bus park provide a perfect view of the river’s dreadful rush and the deep gorge made by the turbulent flow of white water.

    Tibetan Refugee Camps:
The Tibetan village Tashiling in the south and the Tashi Palkhel village in the north of Pokhara are renowned for the production and trade of woolen carpets and other handicrafts. The original Tibetan settlers in this region migrated to Nepal in the ‘50s.

Overnight at a hotel. Breakfast included.
